The Fall and rise of print culture

One could say that my essays in the section "Viewpoint" of the San Juan Star newspaper initiated my career as an academic writer.  It was a fascinating experience to see one's own intellectual creations appear instantaneously all over the island, as if by magic.  I had some say in the islands' affairs.  Certainly, not everyone  necessarily read the newspaper, and much less the viewpoint section.  Nonetheless, the experience was exhilarating in providing immediate positive feedback, something which greatly contrast to the academic world where one's creatures take a very long time to be born and mature.  Towards 2001, the year in which these articles appeared, I still had not become fully aware of the world of the internet., although I obviously knew of its existence.   Yet the publication of my articles ceased suddenly for what is now obviously in retrospect: the attacks on the World Trade Twin Tower on September 11, 2001.  Although I continued submitting article,s there was a change in editor, and my articles vanished in thin air.  Shortly afterwards, the newspaper itself went into bankruptcy, being bought out by ay cooperative to create the Puerto Rico Daily Sun, which also ended up in bankruptcy itself.  Fortunately, during this period,  in 2002, I 'discovered' the internet. Nothing has been the same for me since.
